A family-owned restaurant is introducing Cedar Park diners to the distinctive flavors of Georgia, with a menu centered on traditional dishes including khinkali and Adjaruli khachapuri.
Sami Sumeli, a Georgian and European restaurant at 401 E. Whitestone Blvd., Suite A101, describes itself as the first restaurant in the area to specialize in khinkali and Adjaruli.
Khinkali are traditional Georgian dumplings typically filled with seasoned meat and broth and distinguished by their pleated, twisted tops. The restaurant’s photos show the large handmade-style dumplings among its featured dishes.
Another centerpiece is Adjaruli khachapuri, the boat-shaped Georgian bread filled with melted cheese and topped with egg and butter. The dish is associated with the Adjara region of Georgia and is generally served hot, with the egg, butter and cheese mixed together before pieces of the bread are torn off for dipping.
Sami Sumeli is also offering cocktails and other beverages. Its current happy hour runs from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, with margaritas, mimosas and mojitos priced at $6.
The restaurant emphasizes its family ownership and describes its approach as offering authentic flavors paired with traditional Georgian hospitality.
