Block reports $81,000 fundraising total in Williamson County clerk race

Democrat Erin Block has raised more than $81,000 in her campaign for Williamson County clerk, more than three times the approximately $23,000 raised by Republican opponent Bill Fairbrother, according to fundraising figures released by Block’s campaign.

The campaign said Block’s total set a fundraising record for a Williamson County clerk candidate. That claim has not been independently verified.

The candidates are competing to succeed longtime County Clerk Nancy Rister, who is not seeking reelection. Fairbrother serves as Rister’s chief deputy. Block is an accountant whose experience includes government finance and nonprofit management.

“People may not think of County Clerk as the race that draws this kind of attention or investment, but Williamson County is changing, and people are paying attention to who runs their local government,” Block said in a campaign statement.

Block has emphasized modernizing the clerk’s office, increasing transparency and improving customer service. Fairbrother has emphasized his experience in the office and maintaining continuity after Rister’s retirement.

The fundraising figures offer one measure of campaign activity as the countywide contest enters its final weeks. Fundraising advantages do not necessarily translate into election victories.

Early voting begins Oct. 19. Election Day is Nov. 3.
