Jarrell ISD plans $48 million Atlas Ranch Elementary School for August 2028 opening

Jarrell ISD is planning a $48 million elementary school on donated land in Atlas Ranch, a community expected to include 4,000 homes.

Atlas Ranch Elementary School will become the district’s fifth elementary campus, with an anticipated opening in August 2028. Voters approved the school as part of Jarrell ISD’s 2023 bond program.

A project filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists the campus at 601 County Road 344. The 127,670-square-foot project has an estimated construction start date of Jan. 18, 2027, and an estimated completion date of May 12, 2028. Huckabee is listed as the design firm.

The school board approved the campus’s schematic design May 20, 2026. The school will occupy 13.2 acres donated for the project, and its name was a condition of the land donation agreement, according to the district.

District officials say the campus will help accommodate continued enrollment growth and provide additional educational opportunities for students.

“We believe in investing in the future of this community,” said Matthew Michelsen of Atlas Ranch, who the district identified as the land donor.

American Constructors announced in April that it had been selected to build the school. The company said the campus is expected to serve about 900 students and open for the 2028-29 school year.

The May 2028 completion date listed in the state filing is a construction estimate. The district’s anticipated August opening would bring students to the campus later that summer.
