West Virginia Man Killed In Collision With Williamson County Patrol Vehicle

Following is an update from DPS Sergeant Deon Cockrell concerning the fatal collision that occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. last night on IH 35 near mile marker 274:

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to fatal crash on IH 35 in Williamson County. A 1995 Buick Regal and a marked Williamson County Sheriff’s Office vehicle were traveling southbound on IH 35 near mile marker 274. The passenger vehicle, occupied by a male was traveling on the left improved shoulder. The patrol unit was also traveling in the left lane.  The passenger vehicle traveled from the improved shoulder into the left lane and was struck in the rear by the patrol unit. The passenger vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and came to rest on the grassy median.  As a result of the crash, the driver of the passenger vehicle identified as Jones Okey, age 78, of  West Virginia was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The off duty officer was transported to St. David’s Hospital in Georgetown for observation. A copy of the crash report can be obtained once the investigation is completed.
