Weikel’s Store & Bakery, is a “Texas-famous” convenience store and bakery on State Highway 71 in La Grange. Their claim to fame is “authentic Czech kolaches…, famous for the soft, fluffy dough… made from scratch every day from [a] special family recipe traced back to Czechoslovakia.”
In a matter of weeks, Leander, Cedar Park, and Williamson County residents won’t have to take the scenic route to Houston for a stop at Weikel’s. While an exact opening date has not been announced, the response that Williamson Reporter received to an emailed inquiry inspires confidence that the newest Weikel’s location will be open in time to add their famous baked goods to local Thanksgiving feasts.
Foodie’s Corner, currently under construction at 11340 TX-183A Toll Rd, Leander, TX, is licensed to make and sell Weikel’s most popular products. All bakery products at this location will be made from scratch on site. The Foodie’s Corner response to our request for an opening date, received today, is as follows:
Not sure yet. We are still finalizing our inspections which is taking some time. It will be 2-3 weeks from now.
Three weeks from today would be October 19. While that may be optimistic, double that time, our own “worst case” estimate, would put opening day at November 9, well ahead of the next major US holiday dedicated in part to feasting, Thanksgiving.
