Empanada lovers will have a chance to sample flavors from across Latin America when Empanada Fest arrives in Leander on Sept. 6.
The family-friendly event is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at The Fieldhouse at The Crossover, located at 1717 Scottsdale Drive, Suite 160, in Leander.
Organizers say the festival will bring together vendors offering a wide variety of empanadas, ranging from traditional recipes to modern and creative interpretations. Attendees can expect savory and sweet options representing different Latin American culinary traditions.
In addition to food, the event will feature live music, drinks and community activities designed to celebrate Latin American culture.
Admission is free, though organizers encourage attendees to register in advance so vendors can better estimate attendance and food demand. The event is open to all ages.
Empanadas — pastry pockets typically filled with meats, cheeses, vegetables or sweet ingredients — are popular throughout Latin America, with each country and region putting its own spin on the dish.
Festival organizers say the goal is to showcase those regional differences while creating a gathering place for food lovers and families.
Vendor and sponsorship opportunities remain available through the event organizers.
Empanada Fest is being organized by Latin City and is one of several food-focused cultural events held throughout Texas during the year.
