The Pit BBQ, a longtime Georgetown barbecue restaurant that is currently listed as permanently closed, is preparing to reopen under new ownership, according to an announcement posted Friday on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
The restaurant, located at 2427 Williams Drive, has served the Georgetown community for more than 40 years.
In a Facebook announcement, the new owners confirmed they are working behind the scenes to reopen the restaurant and are completing the final steps required by the city before welcoming customers.
“We’re currently wrapping up the final steps with the city and a few other details that need to fall into place before we can officially open our doors,” the owners wrote.
The announcement comes amid growing speculation about when the longtime barbecue establishment might return.
The owners acknowledged rumors of a possible reopening before Thanksgiving but cautioned that no official opening date has been established.
“We want to make sure everything is in place before we make that promise,” they wrote.
The Pit BBQ has been a recognizable fixture along Williams Drive for decades, with its brick exterior, prominent yellow lettering and roadside sign advertising traditional Texas barbecue.
The restaurant has offered chopped beef sandwiches and other barbecue favorites, along with catering services.
Although its Facebook business profile currently lists the restaurant as permanently closed, the new announcement makes clear that the closure is not intended to be permanent.
The new owners did not identify themselves in the announcement or disclose details about any planned changes to the restaurant’s menu, operations or building.
They thanked Georgetown residents for their enthusiasm and patience as preparations continue.
“We can’t wait to welcome everyone back, serve up some great Pit BBQ, and become part of this community!” the owners wrote.
An official reopening date is expected to be announced once the remaining preparations are complete.
