Slim Chickens is preparing to open its first Round Rock restaurant at 2700 Red Bud Lane, taking over a space previously occupied by Zaxby’s.
The restaurant’s new local Facebook page announced the forthcoming opening Monday but did not provide a specific opening date. The page says the restaurant will offer local deals, catering, school spirit nights, fundraisers and giveaways.
The Round Rock Chamber has scheduled a ribbon-cutting ceremony for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at the restaurant. Earlier reports indicated the location was targeting a late July or early August opening.
Slim Chickens’ menu centers on buttermilk-marinated, hand-breaded chicken tenders and wings. The fast-casual chain also serves sandwiches, wraps, chicken and waffles, salads, macaroni and cheese, fried pickles and other Southern-style sides.
The company’s employment website lists the Round Rock location among restaurants accepting job applications.
Slim Chickens was founded in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and has expanded throughout the United States and internationally. The Round Rock restaurant is part of the chain’s continued growth in the Central Texas market.
