Three people were arrested after officers responding to reports of gunfire early on the Fourth of July recovered seven firearms, including two equipped with illegal machine gun conversion devices, according to Cedar Park police.
Just after midnight July 4, officers responded to reports of shots fired near Kettering Road and Bagdad Road. As officers arrived, they heard additional gunfire and established a perimeter while requesting assistance from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team.
Police said the drone team helped officers locate the individuals involved, allowing them to surrender without incident.
During the investigation, officers recovered seven firearms, including two Drako-style pistols and five Glock pistols. Authorities said two of the Glock pistols were equipped with illegal machine gun conversion devices, commonly known as “switches,” which can allow a firearm to fire automatically.
The following individuals were arrested:
- Francisco Hernandez, 41, on charges of possession of prohibited weapons and unlawful possession of a firearm.
- Brian Hernandez, 17, on a charge of possession of prohibited weapons.
- Israel Vences, 18, on a charge of possession of prohibited weapons.
Police credited the coordinated response between Cedar Park officers and the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team for helping bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
Authorities also reminded residents that celebratory gunfire is dangerous and illegal, noting that bullets fired into the air eventually return to the ground and can cause serious injury or death.
