A new board game cafe and bar designed to help visitors unplug and connect over tabletop games is expected to open in Leander in December.
Wren’s Landing is planned for a 2,984-square-foot space at 1561 Hero Way, Suite 120. The cafe will offer a collection of board games alongside beer, wine, nonalcoholic drinks and light, self-serve food options.
The business is being developed by husband-and-wife co-founders Charles and Mindy Carlson. Its name was inspired by Wren’s Cafe, where the couple had their first date in 1996.
Wren’s Landing is intended to accommodate casual visitors, established gaming groups and organized community events. Customers will be able to stop in for a short game or remain for a longer tabletop session.
“We’re trying to open up a community space for people to unplug and connect over something besides just drinking,” Charles Carlson told Community Impact.
A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists an estimated construction cost of $399,000. Renovations are scheduled to include a bar, restrooms, millwork, lighting and interior finishes.
Construction is expected to begin in September and be completed by Dec. 15, although project timelines are subject to change. The space will not include a commercial kitchen.
