Construction is nearing completion on Leander Union, a 155,000-square-foot mixed-use development planned as a shopping, dining and employment destination, according to Austin-based Topo Development Group.
The project will feature more than 65,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and approximately 50,000 square feet of offices. Westlake Dermatology and Northpoint Austin Church have signed on as anchor tenants.
Landscaping has been completed, additional tenants are joining the development and construction is underway on turnkey office suites expected to become available soon, the developer said. A complete list of retail and dining tenants has not yet been announced.
“Great places don’t just happen; they’re built with intention,” Topo principal Daryl Kunik said. “At Leander Union, we’re focused on creating something that feels both elevated and accessible, where people can gather, work and connect in a way that reflects the character and growth of the community.”
Kunik, Kim Shipman and John Morran lead Topo Development Group. Kunik was also a founding partner of Hai Hospitality, the Austin restaurant group behind Uchi, Uchiko and Loro.
Leander Union was designed by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, with McFarland Architecture serving as architect of record. Its design incorporates preserved heritage trees, outdoor walkways and public gathering areas intended to connect the development’s offices, restaurants and shops.
“We wanted to design an environment that feels approachable and comfortable, where the lines between indoor and outdoor, work and leisure, are intentionally softened,” architect Michael Hsu said.
Topo said its early leasing efforts have focused on restaurants and experience-oriented retailers as Leander’s rapid population growth increases demand for commercial space and nearby amenities.
The company’s other projects include Canopy and Springdale General in East Austin. Topo is also under contract to acquire the property housing the Lammes Candies store at 5330 Airport Blvd., where it plans to adapt the existing property for a new use.
