Georgetown Police Department seeks emergency communications operators, highlights role as first responders

The Georgetown Police Department is recruiting emergency communications operators, emphasizing the critical role telecommunicators play as the first point of contact during emergencies.

In a recent hiring campaign, the department described dispatchers as the “first” first responders, responsible for gathering critical information, providing lifesaving instructions and remaining on the line with callers during some of the most stressful moments of their lives.

The department is advertising positions within its Public Safety Communications Division and noted that no prior experience is required. New hires receive training and can advance through multiple certification levels.

According to the recruitment materials, entry-level Emergency Communications Operator I positions begin at $28.83 per hour after successful completion of initial training. Higher certification and experience levels can earn up to $33.98 per hour for operators holding a Master TCOLE License and at least eight years of experience.

Officials said the positions offer opportunities for career growth, teamwork and direct community impact. The department is encouraging applicants interested in public service to consider a career in emergency communications.

The recruitment campaign highlights the profession’s importance in connecting callers with police, fire and emergency medical services, while providing critical support before first responders arrive on scene.

Applications are being accepted through the Georgetown Police Department’s communications division hiring process.
