Georgetown voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to renew a dedicated sales tax that helps pay for maintenance and repairs to city streets.
Proposition A would reauthorize the city’s quarter-cent sales tax for street maintenance.
The proposal would continue an existing tax. Georgetown voters first approved the dedicated funding source in November 2002.
The city’s election ordinance states that the tax expires unless voters reauthorize it. Revenue is restricted to eligible maintenance and repair work on existing municipal streets and sidewalks.
The election gives residents a decision about continuing a dedicated funding source for street upkeep, separate from the city’s property tax rate.
No Georgetown mayor or City Council candidate races appear on Williamson County’s November sample ballot. The city’s municipal ballot contains the sales tax proposition.
Early voting runs Oct. 19-30. Election Day is Nov. 3, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The voter registration deadline is Oct. 5.
