Cedar Park fentanyl dealer sentenced to 40 years in death of 18-year-old

A Williamson County jury found a man guilty of murder in the fentanyl poisoning death of an 18-year-old Cedar Park resident, authorities said.

Caleb Comer was convicted June 10 in connection with the 2024 death of Matthew Wright, 18, of Cedar Park. Two days later, on June 12, a judge sentenced Comer to 40 years in prison.

The case stemmed from an investigation by the Cedar Park Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit after Wright was found dead in his home in May 2024.

Detectives determined Comer sold fentanyl to Wright just hours before his death, according to police. An autopsy later found fatal levels of fentanyl in Wright’s system.

Comer was arrested in July 2024 on a murder warrant.

Police said the conviction and sentencing conclude a joint effort between Cedar Park detectives and the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office to prosecute those responsible for distributing narcotics linked to fatal overdoses.

“This case sends a clear message to those who distribute illegal drugs, especially those whose actions result in the death of another person, that you will be held accountable,” Cedar Park Police Chief Mike Harmon said in a statement.

“While no sentence can undo this tragic loss, we remain committed to aggressively investigating these crimes and protecting our community,” Harmon added.

The Cedar Park Police Department also recognized Wright’s family for their support throughout the legal process.

Authorities encouraged anyone with information about narcotics activity to submit anonymous tips to the Organized Crime Unit through TIP411 by texting “CPPD” and a message to 847411.
